Recently in class, we have been studying characterization. Using the definition we have of characterization, compare and contrast the characters of Rainsford and Zaroff. Be sure to support your characterization of these two characters with support from the text.
For example, if you state that Rainsford has a lot of knowledge on hunting. You need to provide evidence from the text like: on p. 40, Zaroff mentions that he has read all of Rainsford’s books on hunting. This would indicate that Rainsford has a lot of knowledge on the topic of hunting since he was able to write multiple books on the subject. (This one is mine, so you can’t use it.)
You should have at least two paragraphs, of no fewer than 5 sentences. Also, this week, you need to post a comment on someone else’s blog.

Zaroff and Rainsford are somewhat the same type of person. For example, Zaroff is a smart person. He knows how to get around easily & how to survive.
ReplyDeleteRainsford is the type of person who knows what his enemies are up too. Rainsford has been living on the island that Zaroff gets stuck on for a long time.
Anything that Zaroff tries to pull, to escape from the island; Rainsford will catch him. Mostly because he has been living there for mostly his whole life and he knows all of the ways to leave the island.

ReplyDeleteZaroff and Rainsford are both very skilled outdoors men, and experienced hunters. I know this because Rainsford has several books about hunting, and Zaroff is so bored with hunting animals he started hunting humans. Rainsford and Zaroff are also similar because they’re both cunning, because Rainsford made traps, and Zaroff could hunt well in the dark.
Zaroff and Rainsford are different because Zaroff is crazy, because he thinks that killing people for a sport is okay. I know this because in the story Zaroff and Rainsford fight about the different opinions they have. Zaroff is more passionate about hunting because he is willing to kill people just to get the thrill of a good hunt. Rainsford is less passionate because he is still excited about hunting animals. I know this because Rainsford doesn’t agree to hunt with Zaroff when he offers him.
Rainsford and Zaroff are alike and different in many ways. Rainsford is a man who falls off of a boat and is on an island were Zaroff lives.
ReplyDeleteRainsford is resourceful when he uses all the things in his surroundings in the jungle to escape from Zaroff. Rainsford makes traps that Zaroff’s dog’s fall into and uses sticks to keep them in the traps. Rainsford also shares a love for hunting, which Zaroff is also a hunter. Rainsford shows pride when he is defeating Zaroff by not giving up. Zaroff is very crazy for hunting people. He says that hunting animals has gotten boring for him so he started the hunt humans. Rainsford doesn’t want to kill humans like Zaroff. Zaroff is mad that he is not going to hunt with him so he hunts Rainsford and Rainsford defeats him.
Rainsford and Zaroff are both alike and different in many ways. Such as they both are hunters that know a lot about the sport. They are different by the type of species they hunt. Both Zaroff and Rainsford were very smart in the way they hunted.
Kylie I think you did a great job explaining Rainsford and Zaroff. I like how you said Zaroff is more passionate about hunting because he kills humans. I also like that you said that Rainsford doesn't agree with Zaroff about hunting humans.

ReplyDeleteThere are many similarities between Zaroff and Rainsford. They both are courageous. They are also brave and like to hunt. Zaroff and Rainsford are both also sly and cunning. There are many more similarities between Zaroff and Rainsford.
Zaroff and Rainsford are also very different. Zaroff is a cold blooded killer. Rainsford is a nice person. Zaroff has also been on a lot of hunts and Rainsford hasn’t been on that many exotic hunts. Zaroff also hunts humans and Rainsford hunts jaguars.
There are many similarities and differences between the Zaroff and Rainsford.

ReplyDeleteOne way Zaroff and Rainsford are alike is they are very good hunters. They are both good hunters because Zaroff has been able to hunt the most dangerous animal, humans, and Rainsford was originally going to the Amazon to hunt a more challenging animal, jaguars. Another way Zaroff and Rainsford are alike is that they are both very cunning. Zaroff was smart enough to learn how to hunt in the dark. Rainsford was very cunning also. Rainsford made traps to keep himself safe.
Zaroff and Rainsford were also different. The main difference between Zaroff and Rainsford was that Zaroff was crazy, unlike Rainsford. Zaroff was so crazy that to entertain himself he hunted humans. Another way they were different was Zaroff was more passionate about hunting. Rainsford loved to hunt but did not make it his whole life unlike Zaroff.

Another reason why they are alike is because they both love what they do, and are good at what they do. They both are also very brave. They are a like in several ways but are also different.
Even though Rainsford and Zarnoff are alike they are different in different ways. Rainsford and Zarnoff are different in one way because Rainsford is smart. But so is Zarnoff but Zarnoff is sneaky in a wat too. They are also different because Zarnoff is crazy, and he hunts people. Also Zarnoff made it seem like hunting was his number one important thing.
Even though Zarnoff and Rainsford didn't have them same things in common in every way they still were kinda alike.

Rainsford and Zaroff have many of the same skills and wits but obviously Zaroff is more passionate about hunting, than Rainsford.

ReplyDeleteThe definition of characterization is the way in which the author develops his/her character. In the story "The Most Dangerous Game" the character, Rainsford is similar to Zaroff. Both Rainsford and Zaroff are good at hunting. On page 53, Rainsford made a Malay man-catcher and Zaroff said he too hunted in Malacca. Zaroff has never lost at hunting people. They both have a knowledge of things to hunt. On page 47, Rainsford says that he thinks the Cape buffalo is the most dangerous animal of all game. Zaroff know that humans are the most dangerous game to hunt.
ReplyDeleteRainsford and Zaroff are also very different. Zaroff doesn't think that hunting humans is bad. Rainsoford calls hunting animals murder. Therefore, Rainsford is not a sick kind of person like Zaroff is. On page 49 Rainsford, as he put it is a hunter not a murderer. Zaroff is a murderer.
I think Rainsford and Zaroff are actually two very different people. They seem a little similar, but not enough to say that they are the same. They both have wonderful hunting skills, but even that is different for both of them.
ReplyDeleteRainsford hunted only animals. He was extremely good at it, and even wrote a book about it. Zaroff had read the book, and when they first met, he congratulated Rainsford on it. But Rainsford never thought of hunting humans, and when Zaroff told Rainsford that he did, Rainsford knew that it was murder, no matter if it was a “game”, or not.
Zaroff had hunted animals, but he got “bored” with that. He decided on hunting humans, to match his intellect. He never thought of it has “murder”, but a game.
Both Rainsford and Zaroff were intelligent in the traps area. They both knew about the Malay Man-Catcher. Rainsford knew how to make it, but Zaroff knew how to dodge that trap, and Zaroff knew exactly where Rainsford would be, most of the time. Zaroffs only mistake was giving up on Rainsford when he jumped the cliff.
Surprising enough, I believe that Rainsford and Zaroff are two very different people. Rainsford is just another hunter. But Zaroff, he's a murder. There's no similarities between the two.

ReplyDeleteFor example, they are both smart. Rainsfod get off the island without bieng killed and Zaroff might be crazy, but he also thought of hunting humans for some more challenging game to hunt.
Another similarity is how they both love to hunt.
Some differences between them is what and how they hunt. Zaroff, for example, hunts humans because he thinks that regular hunting is to easy and boring for him. Rainsford hunts regular animals that are normally hunted and has fun with it.
Zaroff and Rainsford and very alike and different. They both are important and play a big part in the story.

ReplyDeleteIn the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. The characters Zaroff and Rainsford are pretty much complete opposites but they do have some things in common.
ReplyDeleteThe characters Rainsford and Zaroff have a few things in common. One thing that they both like to hunt. Another thing is that both Rainsford and Zaroff are both smart. Zaroff makes Rainsford more cunning as the story goes on. Rainsford started making traps to try to trap Zaroff or the dogs or Ivan.
There are many differences between Zaroff and Rainsford. For one Zaroff hunts humans and Rainsford hunts animals. Second the way that they think is very different. When Zaroff and Rainsford are in the jungle Rainsford thinks of ways to injure or capture Zaroff. And at the very end Rainsford makes the decision to turn the table on Zaroff when he jumped off the cliff. Zaroff was thinking in terms of what was happening right then and not in the future.
So in the end Rainsford came out on top when he killed Zaroff. But in some ways they were very alike and in other way they were complete opposites.
I agree completely with you Amber. Zaroff was a murderer and Rainsford was just another hunter that was subjected to Zaroff "games".

Zaroff is bored of hunting and hunts humans for a challenge. Rainsford has fallen off of his yaht and swam to this island. Now he is being hunted by Zaroff.
ReplyDeleteRainsford has 3 hours too hide and had to hide for 3 days. Rainsford was smart he had traps and never stayed in the same place after placeing a trap. Zarroff was not stupid either, he had his dogs or guest go first. He knew this would be a big problem. The overall climaz of the story is when Rainsford jumped off a cliff to run away and swam to get inside of zaroffs house.
After all of this Rainsford killed Zaroff because he was a murderer.
