Blog#6- Tweets

Welcome to the world of Twitter! This week, each of you must select five characters from Romeo and Juliet and send a Tweet as that person. There are some guidelines:

  1. You can only use 140 characters/letters to express your thought. You must be concise and brief!
  2. You must Tweet something that the character would be thinking or feeling; do not retell what happened (no plot summary)
  3. You must use five different characters

Your Tweets should look something like this:

“I’ve found the girl for me! No more pouting in the woods.” #Romeo

“So happy my dad threw that party last night; first kiss, and it was a good one!” #Juliet

Good luck, and have fun!

Blog #5- Shakespeare Translation

For this week’s blog, I want you to select 10 consecutive lines from Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet to translate. You must first put the 10 lines that you are translating from the play down in italics in your response and then follow it with your translation. For example:

Two households, both alike in dignity,

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,

From ancient grudge break now new mutiny…..

Two equally wealthy households

In Verona, where the story is,

From an old argument now a new fight occurs….

Good luck, and you may use any tool to help you.

Blog #4- Nature vs Nurture

The novel The Outsiders begs the question, are we a product of nature (how we are born) or nurture (what environment we are raised in)? Discuss whether you think the Greasers and Socs are products of nature or nurture. You need to discuss both the Socs and the Greasers, so you should have at least two paragraphs (a minimum of 5 sentences!).

Be sure to include specific examples from the text to support your theory. For example (and you cannot use mine in your response): I believe that Johnny is a product of nurture. I believe this because he was very timid because of the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father.

This is due on Tuesday, November 22. Good luck!

It was the evening of a cold Christmas Eve when the newspaper came out. “GIRL GONE MISSING IN WAVERLY”, said the front cover of the press. She went by the name of Patricia St. Pete she died at the age of 16 and was found in a pond down the road from her school. She was covered in cuts from head to toe.

It was a week before Christmas break, and everyone was excited to get out of school until the New Year. Patricia was doing her math homework in study hall, when the office called her down. Her mom had called to tell her to walk home after school, because she wouldn’t make it to pick her up. She was glad because it would give her more time to stay away from home, because as soon as she got there, it was time to do her book report.

At the end of the day Patricia grabbed all of her things out of her locker that she needed for her book report, her phone, and her jacket. She walked down the hall way, passed the bus garage and towards her house. Her house was about a mile from the school. So she figured it would take ten minutes or so to walk it.

About half way to her house, there was a pond in the middle of the woods. It was dark and smelled of a swamp. The stench was so bad you could smell it from the road. There was a pathway right along the side of the woods instead of walking on the side of the road.

All of a sudden Patricia fell two strong hands grab her from behind the neck. She could tell by the force of the grab that it was a man. She knew this wasn’t good. Patricia screamed out for help with all that she could, but the mans hands covered her mouth not allowing her to breathe. She still struggle to try and free herself. But the man brought her into the woods, dragging her by her hair and neck.

By this time Patricia knew she was helpless. The man took a knife to her throat and told her if she screamed she would be killed. She didn’t listen and screamed. At one instant he cut her throat causing her to bleed profusely. Patricia could feel herself slipping away from life. One minute she was alive walking home from school, and the next she was dead in a pond in the middle of the woods.

At least she didn’t have to do that report now. And that was the end of Patricia St. Pete’s life.
